Renovations to this Tudor home incorporate a multiple site and interior improvements including a new portico, outdoor and indoor fireplaces, outdoor dining arbor, garden wall and water feature, pool house, and covered parking. Site constraints and maximum allowable impervious surface coverage provided a unique opportunity to introduce a garden roof as a design feature for the carports. The green roof is designed to capture stormwater, provide vehicle protection from the elements, and mitigate water run-off volume of the expanded “lot coverage.” Other design features include exposed heavy timber roof framing, corten steel columns and connections, limestone and stucco garden walls, and wood sunshade cantilevered eaves. The carports are nestled into the context of a mature, densely planted landscape, designed and planted by Paul vanMeter to adhere to the principles of the New American Garden style.
