KAUTTER & KELLEY ARCHITECTS is a highly skilled and qualified architectural design firm with diverse project experience. The award-winning studio designs and oversees construction on a wide range of building types requiring advanced knowledge in building technologies and design specialization. Our portfolio of professional experience reflects a history of creating spaces to live, work, learn, worship, and entertain.

Like our designs, our client relationships are forged through personal and customized levels of engagement where each detail is approached with patience, care and mutual goals. Our mission is to bring to life, structures that are functional, aesthetically pleasing and transformative. We believe the thoughtful execution of well-designed building projects can be a catalyst for positive social change.

As architects, we view our world as both legacy and archive whereby we create a footprint for today that establishes a foothold for tomorrow. In short, our scope is to depict an ideal world with all its social complexities, by utilizing the vast assortment of natural resources with a deep awareness of our responsibility to a green and sustainable planet.

K&KA provides cohesive design solutions expressing rational and timeless aesthetic qualities. Our firm helps people plan, design and construct quality environments whether that include short-term problem solving or strategies for long-term investment.

KAUTTER & KELLEY ARCHITECTS is committed to delivering responsive and meticulously executed architectural design services. The firm is represented by a diverse portfolio with extensive experience in design for new construction, renovations, historic restoration, interiors and planning.

Incorporated in 1994, the architectural practice is managed by its founding principals, Michael Kautter, AIA, President; Steven Kelley, AIA, Vice President; and Amy Laughlin, Secretary/Treasurer. Both principal architects began their professional experience in 1981 in major urban markets: New York City and Columbus, Ohio. Because of our depth of experience, and the fact that both principals share in direct responsibility for all projects, the firm is often called upon to provide many varied professional and architectural services.

Approximately one-third of our projects address design for institutions and public architecture; another one-third consists of design for commercial and private clientele; the remaining third incorporates varied forms of residential design and urban and campus planning.

The firm’s interior design services include furnishing selections and procurement. Predesign services include programming, master planning, comparative design solution evaluation, and detailed construction cost estimating. Another area of expertise is our success with historical preservation and maintaining the integrity of architecturally significant places.

The firm has been responsible for the planning and construction of projects valued at a combined total of over $350 million.

"Few people realize how complicated it is to build – that is until they find themselves lost in the maze of design options, building codes, zoning laws, contractors, and so on. No two building projects are exactly alike, so there is no single, clear-cut path to follow.”

– AIA Guide to Architectural Services

In understanding what is involved in design and construction projects, it is imperative to recognize that the enterprise of building is a collaborative effort. The architect, contractor, and owner ultimately share in the responsibility for a project’s success. The design professional is called upon to bring vision to a project and provide the skill necessary to assemble groups of craftsmen, tradesmen, and specialists to make that vision a reality.

Architectural Design combines: artistic sensibility, creative and logistical problem solving skills, an awareness of technological advancements, knowledge of historical precedent, and an understanding of construction industry capabilities and skill sets. Architecture of substance lifts the spirit of both the occupant and casual observer, while responding to the economic and physical constraints associated with each distinct project.

KAUTTER & KELLEY ARCHITECTS provides design services that thoughtfully integrate current construction practices with creative aesthetic and functional concepts, maintaining a sensitive awareness of cultural traditions, and recognizing client’s desires and objectives as critical to the success of the completed work. K&KA‘s energetic and indefatigable approach to project representation, research, design, documentation, and construction administration is undoubtedly one of the firm’s most noteworthy and recognizable character traits. Principal architects accept oversight and management responsibilities for all projects ensuring professional accountability.

Prospective clients will find that we make every effort to lead them through the multitude of design options in order to realize the successful execution of their desired architectural environments. The best of these projects maximize investment impact by concentrating funds where they are most effective and best appreciated.
